Maycember: A month of transition
by Kim Dodd
Instagram must know how difficult of a transition season this month is for me. With my youngest child preparing to graduate high school, my feed has suddenly filled with gentle encouragement: reminders to keep my chin up, reassurance that it’s okay to feel overwhelmed, and plenty of references to “Maycember”—that clever nickname capturing the frantic pace of May, rivaling the busyness of December. Between ceremonies, celebrations, deadlines, and all the “lasts” that come with a closing chapter, it’s easy and normal, to feel stretched thin.
But May is always like this, isn’t it? It is a month of transition. Some seasons are coming to an end while others are just beginning. Whether it’s the close of a school year, shifts in work rhythms, or changes within our families, May often holds both endings and beginnings in the same breath.
What’s important to remember is that the stress and anxiety that surface during times like these are not necessarily signs that something is wrong. In fact, they often emerge because something meaningful is happening. Even good, natural stages of life can feel overwhelming. Transitions ask more of us—they require emotional energy, mental adjustment, and sometimes even a reimagining of who we are in a new season.
There is a quiet tension in holding gratitude for what has been while also making space for what is coming. We may find ourselves celebrating and grieving at the same time, feeling both excitement and exhaustion. This complexity is not something to fix; it is something to honor.
As we enter our second year with VC3, we find ourselves in a transition season as well. Our current interns are preparing to graduate, stepping into the next chapter of their calling, while we simultaneously onboard and welcome a new group after a grueling spring of interviews. This year, we are especially excited to grow—expanding to four interns and deepening the work we feel called to do. More information about our new cohort will be coming in June.
If you feel connected to this work, we invite you to be part of the village. Your support helps us continue promoting healthy relationships and mental healing in our community. Whether through prayer, partnership, or financial giving, you play a role in sustaining this calling.
Seasons will continue to shift—that’s part of the rhythm of life. But in the midst of the movement, there is an invitation: to be present, to breathe deeply, and to trust that even in the overwhelm, something meaningful is unfolding.
