Village stories: real change, real people
by Colleen Cox
Working as an intern at VC3 was a fully transformative and enriching experience. While reflecting with peers on our practicum caseloads, VC3 was the only location that allowed trainees to gain experience with both nonprofit pro bono and private pay clients. The diversity of clientele stretched me to confront unexamined biases in ways the classroom could not. Having exposure to a wide array of client needs also helped me learn to expand the modalities and resources I could draw from. The leadership and consistent supervision from Kim allowed room for rich questioning, dialogue and exploration without fear. The confidence that I gained from Kim’s training empowered me to confidently sit with clients in their vulnerability as they take the courageous next steps in their healing journey. Outside of what VC3 provided me personally in my academic and professional pursuits, Kim is creating a resource for the community that is assisting in creating real and lasting change for those it serves. I am confident that we will see many caring, grounded and professional systemic therapists come out of VC3 and continue to follow in Kim’s footsteps, paying it forward in their own communities.
